LACMA Veterans Make Movies 2018 with USVAA #USVAA

In the Spring of 2016, LACMA established a platform for veterans to create short films about their experiences. Over the course of several months, Veterans Make Movies offers free workshops and provide veterans with the equipment and guidance they need to bring a film to fruition.

VETERANS IN THE ARTS AND HUMANITIES DAY, 2013

As part of USVAA’s ongoing effort to increase public recognition of the vast contribution veterans have made to our culture through their work in the arts, humanities and entertainment industry, we have lobbied municipalities to acknowledge November 1st as Veterans in the Arts and Humanities Day. In 2013, the City of Culver City issued such a declaration, honoring veteran artists everywhere.

OVER HERE

An original play by Christopher Franciosa, OVER HERE was performed as a staged reading at the USVAA theater in April 2012. The play told the story of the Bonus Army, a veteran’s movement which formed in the early years of the Great Depression.

CALIFORNIA LAWYERS FOR THE ARTS – WORKSHOP

California Lawyers for the Arts, which provides legal guidance to the public throughout the state, offered a helping hand to veteran artists in March of 2016, hosting a workshop on artists’ rights. Focusing on matters of copyright and intellectual property, the session was a valuable informative experience for USVAA artists and others.

ON TWO FRONTS: LATINOS IN VIETNAM

The USVAA was honored to take part in an event which included the premiere of the PBS film On Two Fronts: Latinos & Vietnam. SONY PICTURES ENTERTAINMENT HOLIDAY BOUTIQUE

Every holiday season, the Sony Pictures Entertainment Holiday Boutique provides an opportunity for the many artists employed at the Culver City film studio to showcase and market their crafts. In 2015 our neighbors at Sony invited several USVAA artists to participate.

SHOWCASING OUR HEROES (SONY PICTURES ENTERTAINMENT)

An annual event held by Sony, Showcasing Our Heroes highlights the contributions of veterans and their service. During the event, Sony invites local veterans to visit the studio and share their stories, providing a valuable chance for employees to interface with the veteran community.
