Rash of Fall Colors by Dennis Hicks

Dennis Hicks is a Member Of Excellence in the Southeastern Pastel Society, Atlanta, Georgia, painting contemporary impressionist land and seascapes. Works done in pastel, oil, and drawings in pencil, pen and ink. Subjects painted on location or photographed during his
travels across America and Europe. He especially likes painting Florida’s gulf coast with it’s rusty, weathered buildings and sunlit coastline.

Born near Thomasville, Georgia, the skill of freehand drawing arrived early in childhood, but making fine art took years in the making. He attended and graduated from Ringling School of Art, Sarasota, Florida, majoring in advertising art/design, but “Impressionism” with it’s loose style, use of colors, with light against shade made a lasting impression. He’s been hooked ever since!

An Army inductee, he served in HQ Company, 8th Infantry Division, Germany, then did one combat tour with the 1st 7th Cavalry Divisions’ A, E, and HQ Companies, Vietnam, 1970-71. He is a member of the 1st 7th Cav Association and the National MOPH organization. After returning home and working a number of years in advertising art in Florida, he changed career fields and worked in private business until retirement. Now, with time to devote to his painting, he joined some Regional, National, and International Art Groups to exhibit his work. His paintings have been juried into various art exhibitions, including SPS International and Members Exhibitions, Atlanta, Roswell and Stone Mountain, Georgia.
